If you are a fan of the Rick Hendrick stable of drivers, then this was the race for you to tune into on this Sunday afternoon. Ok, so there was a little gold medal hockey game going on as well, but NASCAR does have its very loyal following, so plenty of folks tuned in to see another dominating performance by the top teams in the game. Jeff Gordon shot out of a cannon on the first lap, and quite easily led the most laps in this 2010 Shelby American at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but it was just not quite enough to hold off his teammate and chief nemesis these days, Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie Johnson won a battle of pit strategy late in the race, when both he and Gordon made stops, but Gordon’s crew chief, Steve Letarte made a call to go with two tires while Chad Knauss made a four tire call for Jimmie Johnson. His fate was sealed shortly after that. Johnson maneuvered all around the track, looking for the opening for him to get pass his teammate, and achieved his goal with 15 laps to go. After that, it was only Kevin Harvick that posted any kind of challenge, but inevitably ran out of laps in his quest to run Johnson down. With the victory, the 49th of his decorated career now, Jimmie Johnson once again sets off another round of complaints about Johnson and his dominance over the rest of the field presently racing him in NASCAR. Sure some will take solace in the fact that Johnson was not running away with it, as Harvick would certainly have run him down if he had another twenty laps or so to play with, but to most fans that is just speculation. What the bottom line is for most fans is that they get tired of seeing the same driver grabbing the black and white checkered each week, and the championship each year. It is probably also fair to posture that the decline in ratings over the past year or so for NASCAR cannot only be attributed to the rough economic times, but also to the fact that the fringe NASCAR fan does not see a lot of reason to tune in when it always seems to be the same guy on top in the end. It definitely is something to consider in the grand scheme of things. There were some other interesting tidbits that arose out of the proceedings as well. A crash between Juan Pablo Montoya and teammate Jamie McMurray took both guys out of the race, and left Montoya fuming. At one point Montoya’s wife even took a shot at his teammate on Twitter by noting that Ronald McDonald must have been behind Category:Home › Other • Pomegranates: A newly discovered superfood • Where did the joke why did the chicken cross the road come from and why is it funny? • Can mothers diagnosed with bipolar disorder make good parents? • Spiritual evolution of human consciousness • Tips for getting a college basketball scholarship • Living with Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) • Caring for the caregiver • Technologys impact on society
